Connecticut to Become a Compact Nursing State
Beginning October 1, 2025 Connecticut will officially join the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC)! This means that Connecticut residents can apply for a multistate license, and nurses and LVN/LPNs. nationwide who hold a multistate license will be able to practice in Connecticut.
What is the NLC?
The Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) was first signed into law in 2000 and allow nurses who hold a specific multistate license to practice in any NLC state. Only nurses who declare a compact state as their primary state of residence may be eligible for a multistate license.
What States are Compact Approved?
AL, AZ, AR, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, GU (Guam is allowing nurses who hold active, unencumbered, multi-state licenses issued by Nurse Licensure Compact member states to practice in Guam under their multi-state licenses.), ID, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA (Registered Nurse and Practical Nurse), ME, MD, MS, MO, MT, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NC, ND, OH, OK, PA (Partial implementation), RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VT, VA, VI (eNLC enacted, awaiting implementation), WA, WV (Registered Nurse and Practical Nurse), WI, WY
Guam: Allowing nurses who hold active, unencumbered, multi-state licenses issued by Nurse Licensure Compact member states to practice in Guam under their multi-state licenses.
