Exploring the World While Caring for Patients – the Ultimate Win-Win
Picture this: you're a skilled nurse with a sense of adventure, a love for exploring new places, and a passion for providing top-notch care to patients in need. Sound like a dream come true? Welcome to the world of travel nursing! Travel nurses have the unique opportunity to mix their love for nursing and adventure, taking on assignments in different locations while experiencing the local culture and attractions. While it's true that this career path comes with its own set of challenges, the rewards and experiences can be genuinely life-changing.
This blog post will highlight three amazing FlexCare travel nurses featured on our Instagram this month!
Mallory, Oncology RN
I decided to be a travel nurse almost four years ago, and it was the best decision I’ve made in my life! I’ve seen many different places and met many people along the way. My recruiter, Victoria, has been the absolute best. She listens to me, supports me, and always makes finding a new contract such a breeze.
Jody & Mirian, ER RNs
We’ve been traveling with FlexCare since December 2020! We’ve had the flexibility to take 1-3 months off at a time. We recently just returned from a month off between contracts and traveled to Guatemala for a medical mission trip to help underserved cities of Guatemala. While there, we were able to zip line, explore Mayan ruins, explore caves, and enjoy their food and culture.
Shaylee, L&D RN
Becoming a travel nurse has taught me more things in a short amount of time than I could have ever imagined. I am forever thankful for that. There are so many opportunities out there, and FlexCare has helped me make that happen. My advice for anyone thinking about traveling is to take a leap of faith and do it! You won’t regret it. My recruiter, Nathan, has been the best during this experience by always going above and beyond. Having a great recruiter makes the experience that much better. I can’t wait to see what else is in store.
Level Up Your Nursing Career
The life of a travel nurse might not be for everyone, but for those with a spirit of adventure and a deep commitment to helping others, it can be a truly fulfilling experience. From discovering new places and immersing yourself in diverse cultures to building lasting connections with colleagues and patients, travel nursing offers a wealth of opportunities for personal and professional growth.
One of the significant benefits of being a travel nurse is the chance to explore different healthcare settings and work with various patient populations. This exposure helps you become a more adaptable and well-rounded nurse and allows you to discover new areas of interest and specialization within the nursing field.
Travel nursing also offers the potential for higher pay and benefits, including housing stipends and reimbursements, making it an attractive option for those looking to save money or pay off student loans. Moreover, the flexibility of travel nursing contracts allows you to take time off between assignments to rest, recharge, or explore your surroundings without the pressure of a rigid work schedule.
Of course, like any profession, travel nursing has challenges – such as adjusting to new environments, managing the logistics of frequent moves, and sometimes dealing with homesickness or isolation. It's essential to have a robust support system, whether that means staying connected with friends and family back home or forging new friendships with fellow travel nurses or residents in your temporary home.
At FlexCare, your S1NGLEPOINT Recruiter is the person you can call for everything from finding the ideal position to identifying housing options and managing compliance documentation. They'll be by your side with regular check-ins throughout your assignment. In addition, FlexCare's Clinical Service Team is available to speak with our clinicians to help them navigate the more challenging aspects of being a healthcare traveler, such as patient safety concerns, staffing ratios, etc.
Ultimately, the opportunity to combine wanderlust with a rewarding healthcare career is a priceless experience that many nurses wouldn't trade for anything. The memories and connections made during your travels will last a lifetime. The skills and perspectives you gain will make you a more compassionate, competent, and well-rounded healthcare professional. So, for those considering this unique path, embrace the adventure, and embark on the journey of a lifetime as a travel nurse!
