FlexCare Travel Nurse Honored with DAISY Award
Meet Rebecca, a DAISY Award-Winning Labor & Delivery Travel Nurse
At FlexCare Medical Staffing, we are proud to support some of the most talented and dedicated nurses in the healthcare industry. Our travel nurses provide essential care to patients across the country while embodying the highest standards of compassion and professionalism in every facility they work in. Today, we are thrilled to celebrate Rebecca, a Labor and Delivery (L&D) nurse who has been recognized with the prestigious DAISY Award.
The DAISY Award is an esteemed recognition given to nurses who go above and beyond in their care, showing unparalleled compassion and skill. For Rebecca, receiving this award is not only a career highlight but also a testament to her unwavering dedication to her patients and the nursing profession. In this blog post, we’ll take a closer look at Rebecca’s journey as a travel nurse with FlexCare, her well-deserved DAISY Award, and the advice she has for other nurses embarking on their own nursing adventures.
What is the DAISY Award?
The DAISY Award is a nationally recognized program created to celebrate nurses who provide extraordinary care. It was established by the family of Patrick Barnes, a patient who passed away from an autoimmune disease, to honor the nurses who provided compassionate care during his illness. Today, the DAISY Award continues to recognize nurses for their kindness, empathy, and clinical excellence. Nominations for the DAISY Award can come from patients, their families, colleagues, physicians, or anyone who has observed a nurse going the extra mile in providing care.
For Rebecca, the DAISY Award represents the culmination of years of dedication to her patients. "It is an honor," Rebecca shared. "My patient felt that the care I provided was so impactful that she nominated me. To be chosen from a pool of at least 45 other nominees is amazing, especially knowing that some of the nurses I worked alongside are also incredibly skilled and compassionate."
Receiving the DAISY Award as a travel nurse is especially meaningful, as it demonstrates the lasting impression a nurse can make even when working at a facility for a short period of time. Rebecca’s ability to build trust, provide excellent care, and offer emotional support in such a temporary role speaks volumes about her passion for nursing.
A Passion for Labor & Delivery Nursing
Rebecca’s love for being a Labor and Delivery nurse shines through in everything she does. L&D nurses have the privilege of being present during some of the most life-changing moments for families, but they also support patients during incredibly difficult times. "I love being a Labor and Delivery nurse," Rebecca said. "I’m with patients on the happiest days of their lives, but also on the hardest days. Being able to offer the extra support they need during those times is a blessing to me."
This deep sense of empathy and responsibility has been a guiding force throughout Rebecca’s nursing career. Her work in Labor and Delivery has allowed her to share in countless precious moments, from the joyful cries of a newborn baby to the quiet resilience shown during moments of loss. It is this unique role that has allowed Rebecca to connect so deeply with her patients and provide the level of care that earned her the DAISY Award.
The Road to the DAISY Award as a Traveling Nurse
As a travel nurse, Rebecca’s assignments take her to hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country. Since joining FlexCare in early 2021, Rebecca has worked in various hospitals, each providing its own unique challenges and opportunities for growth. One of the most remarkable aspects of her journey is that, despite moving from one facility to the next, she consistently leaves a lasting impact on both her colleagues and patients.
Throughout her career, Rebecca has been nominated for the DAISY Award multiple times. "When we are nominated, we receive a recognition pin and a copy of the nomination," she explained. However, as a traveling nurse, Rebecca has sometimes felt that her role was viewed differently. "At some facilities I’ve traveled to, I wasn’t given a pin because I was considered a 'traveler.' So, having the honor of being chosen to win the award was amazing."
Rebecca’s experience speaks to the challenges that traveling nurses often face—moving from one location to another can make it difficult to feel fully integrated into a hospital’s team. But despite these challenges, Rebecca’s commitment to excellence has shone through. The fact that she was able to win the DAISY Award as a traveler is a testament to her resilience and dedication to providing the highest standard of care, no matter where she is.
How Travel Nursing Has Shaped Rebecca’s Career
Rebecca’s journey with FlexCare has not only allowed her to expand her clinical skills but has also given her the opportunity to explore different parts of the country. "When I became a travel nurse, I was able to see parts of the country that I never would have visited if I had stayed home," she said. "Every hospital I’ve been to has taught me something new and has helped me to develop more skills to become a better nurse."
For Rebecca, the learning never stops. "I am still learning every day, at every location I go to, and I’ve developed so many friendships over the years that will never go away," she shared. The ability to adapt to new environments and work alongside different teams has made Rebecca a more well-rounded and versatile nurse. Her experiences traveling with FlexCare have enriched her career in ways she never expected, allowing her to grow both personally and professionally.
One of the most rewarding aspects of travel nursing for Rebecca has been the relationships she’s built along the way. The friendships she’s made with other nurses, doctors, and staff have become lifelong connections, and each new assignment brings with it the opportunity to form new bonds.
Advice for Aspiring Travel Nurses
Rebecca has valuable advice for nurses who are considering entering the travel nursing field. "Get your experience at home first, because traveling can be scary," she advised. "Make sure you have a solid understanding base, and then go for it! The adventure of travel nursing is so rewarding."
She encourages new nurses to embrace the adventure of travel and not be afraid to step outside of their comfort zones. "Go to places that you’ve always wanted to visit, and then go to places you never thought you would ever go!" she said. One of the most surprising and rewarding experiences for Rebecca was a travel assignment in Kearney, Nebraska. "I never thought I would ever end up in Kearney, Nebraska, and it has been one of my favorite spots ever!"
Rebecca’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact travel nursing can have on both the nurse and the patients they serve. It’s an opportunity to grow, explore, and touch lives in profound ways.
