Travel Nurse and Team Throw Wedding for COVID-19 Patient
When FlexCare travel nurse, Matthew Holdridge learned that his COVID-19 patient wouldn’t be having the wedding he and his bride had planned, Matthew knew that he had to do something.
Carlos Muniz contracted COVID-19 the week of his wedding and was brought to the ICU. He spent 20 days on life support and beat the virus.
When I heard this story, it sparked an idea in my mind that what better way to help him recover with his overall therapy going forward than to continue on and fulfill his and his wife’s dream of getting married. - SICU RN, Matthew
The Methodist Hospital San Antonio nursing crew and hospital staff put together a one-of-a-kind wedding for their patient and his bride-to-be. The doting bride made her debut from the break room and took her walk down the hall to her groom. Hospital staff and family watched the special moment from a distance and via Zoom.
“It was also part of our recovery as nurses, doctors, and hospital staff because it was a big motivator for us in this pandemic that has essentially been a lot of doom and gloom.”
